Responsibilities/Qualifications

Home Health Aides are needed in the Lansing area.

 

The Home Health Aide is trained to provide personal care and related services in the home.  She/he functions under the direction, instruction and supervision of the Registered/Supervising Nurse.

The Home Health Aide provides the following:

  • Applies appropriate and safe techniques in helping the patient to maintain good person hygiene
  • Assists in maintaining a healthful, safe environment.
  • Plans and prepares nutritious meals.
  • Assists the patient with ambulation. Uses safe transfer and ambulation techniques.
  • Reading and recording temperature, pulse and respiration.
  • Maintains basic infection control procedures.
  • Recognizes emergencies with knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Assists the therapy personnel as needed with rehabilitative process. Understands normal range of motion and positioning.
  • Encourages the patient to become as independent as possible according to the nursing care plan.
  • Attempts to promote patient’s mental alertness through involvement in activities of interest
  • Gives simple emotional and psychological support to the patient and other members of the household.
  • Establishes a relationship with patient and family, which transmit trust and confidentiality.
  • Prepares a report of her visit on the day it is performed and incorporates it in the clinical record weekly.
  • Reports any change in body functions and/or mental status in the home situation and the care or service provided to her immediate supervisor, the staff nurse, or the aide supervisor.
  • Performs routine housekeeping task as related to a clean environment for the patient.
  • Respect for patient’s rights, privacy and property

Critical Demands:

  • Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communication.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include heavy lifting and extensive, bending and standing.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of providing patient care, ambulating patients, transferring patients, assisting with exercise, etc.
  • Must be able to transfer patients, as needed, according to proper techniques of body mechanics.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stress.
  • Free from health problems that may be injurious to the patient and evidence of good personal health habits.
  • Has emotional and mental maturity necessary for establishing and maintained a good work relationship with patient, patient’s family and Agency personnel.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate.
  • Ability to read and write consistent with job requirements.
  • Possession of certificate issued by Hospice and Homecare Foundation/National Association of Home Care OR Completion of Governing Body approved Skills Demonstration and NLN written test.
  • Has reliable means of transportation.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience in-home health care or related health care field preferred.
